Successful Receptions

As you plan your wedding celebration, remember the importance of communication between event planners and the live entertainment. Typically, band leaders can be very flexible when open lines of communication are present. However, the event planner should be in charge of facilitating the evening from start to finish, so you can relax and enjoy your wedding celebration. Properly assigned roles and effective communication will make your reception flow very nicely.

100% Live?

Many entertainment companies lure couples in with billboards and aggressive marketing, which works, but what you don't know is many of those same companies utilize bands, which use backing tracks for their performances. As a result, the client receives semi-live music but pays for actual live music, which can amount to thousands of dollars!  In essence, you are paying for a DJ who has expendable musicians playing along. If you decide to pursue live music for your wedding reception, make sure you know what you are getting, so you know exactly what you are paying for (dangling preposition added for emphasis). Actual Live Music has a unique sound and energy, which creates a beautiful ambience for your celebration. If you go 100% live, you will be 100% satisfied only if you have thoroughly vetted the bands in which you are interested. The process is tricky and takes time, but I can help. First, attend a private showcase. Second, ask the tough questions. As always, you can reach out to

You Choose

Some organizations (pretty big names in wedding industry) only care about hooking the big fish clients (clients who can pay $10K and above on entertainment).  Not all of us have such a luxury, but we do have an idea about what our wedding should look, sound, smell, feel, and taste like. Consider hiring vendors who care about you as a person first and foremost. If you are interested in a particular group, ask if they will accept a  payment plan for services. You may not be able to afford $5K for that wedding band/DJ combo package, but if you have a 24-month lead-in time to your wedding, you could budget $200 per month and have the wedding of your dreams. Reach out to me because I can help you establish great relationships with amazing people who simply want to help, and they happen to be paid a fair wage along the way. They are business and relationship specialists with one thing in common: your happiness.

What is a Showcase?

Here is the scenario: you attend a bridal show, signup for a bunch of information from a variety of vendors, hope to win a few door prizes, and go your merry way. Not too long after, the phone calls, emails, and snail mail follows. If you receive an invitation to a showcase, you can be sure the audience will be much smaller. Showcases are real getting-to-know you sessions. Many of the vendors at the showcase only showed you a small sample of their work. When you attend the showcase, you can guarantee a much more in-depth specialized presentation and a much more personalized experience. A showcase is also a great way to get-to-know vendors' professional networks, so it will be worth your time investment. Remember, a showcase is not the same as a bridal show. A showcase is for a much more discerning audience, who is definitely interested in a particular product or service. As always, reach out to me if I can help you in any way.

Strategic Relationships

Strategic relationships take the pressure off couples planning their wedding. Even with a wedding planner, there are still many decisions to be made. A trend which has emerged (or is still emerging) is the wedding production house, which is a network of wedding vendors who work together and package their services competitively. As a bandleader I am very much connected with a specialized network of wedding vendors, whom I trust and will not hesitate to recommend. As you begin the wonderful journey of wedding planning, contact me, and I will help put you in touch with the best in the business.

Choosing Entertainment?

While I will always advocate for live music at special events, there are ways to have the best of both worlds at your special celebrations. I have personally overseen a few Band/DJ events, which has worked out great for parties with a wide range of ages. Of course, my bands will learn any/all special requests, but sometimes clients REALLY want to hear the recorded version, which is fine.
